Greta Gerwig's Narnia Trailer Is Here: Aslan Is Still Male, and Led Zeppelin Is Finally in a Movie

Netflix just gave us the first trailer for Greta Gerwig’s“Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew,”and it arrived with a serious flex. Hours before the trailer dropped, Gerwig sat down with Stephen Colbert at an exclusive IMAX sneak peek in New York, where she got visibly emotional about the source material.“I would not be who I am without these books. They created me,”she said. Not exactly a standard press tour quote.

Two big creative calls are already dominating the conversation. First, Gerwig is adapting“The Magician’s Nephew”instead of the more famous“The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,”citing a note from C.S. Lewis himself favoring the creation story as the starting point. Second, Meryl Streep is voicing Aslan, and a source confirms the character remains male, with Streep’s voice so transformed you won’t recognize her. Add a rock-opera approach from composers Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, plus“Stairway to Heaven”landing in a movie for the first time ever, and this project has range.

The cast includes David McKenna, Beatrice Campbell, Daniel Craig, and Emma Mackey. IMAX sneak previews begin Feb. 10, 2027, the theatrical release follows Feb. 12, and the film hits Netflix on April 2.

So where do you land: bold reinvention or too much change for a classic? Let us know in the comments.
