Quentin Tarantino has officially written and directed his first stage play, and the lead role is going to someone you probably didn’t see coming. Sacha Baron Cohen will make his stage debut in The Popinjay Cavalier, a swashbuckling tale set in 1830s Europe. The story follows the world’s greatest actor, Rupert Sebastian Thomas Jr., whose trip to Paris takes a dangerous turn. Think grand adventure, deception, disguise, and a whole lot of sparkle.
The announcement came with quotes that instantly went viral. Cohen said,“When the best director in the world calls, you don’t ask questions.”He also added that he’s“beyond delighted that we will be losing our West End virginity together,”and that he made Tarantino promise not to be gentle. If that doesn’t sell you on this production, nothing will.
The Popinjay Cavalier begins previews at London’s Phoenix Theatre on February 23, 2027, officially opens March 18, and runs through June 13. Tickets are on sale now, and given the names attached, they will not last long. So, are you booking a flight to London for this one, or waiting for the inevitable buzz to hit social feeds first?
