Gypsy Rose Blanchard Sideswiped in Louisiana: The Facebook Post Everyone's Talking About

Gypsy Rose Blanchard found herself in a headline over the weekend, but not for the reason anyone expected. Louisiana state police say she was involved in a minor car crash on Saturday, October 17, with only minor property damage reported. No injuries, no arrests, just a fender bender. The other driver, though, turned it into internet gold by posting on Facebook that they had“just got sideswiped by Gypsy Rose.”

The crash lands weeks after a much heavier story: the death of her ex-partner Ken Urker, who was found dead on his 34th birthday. Blanchard has connected his death to cyberbullying and has since been advocating for proposed“Kenan’s Law,”legislation aimed at how social media platforms handle harassment reports. She’s described Urker as“my soulmate and my red string,”a connection she says even death can’t erase. The two share a 16-month-old daughter, Aurora.

So while the meme writing itself continues, the story behind it is about grief, online behavior, and one woman’s push to change platform policy. Which part matters more to you: the viral post or the legislation? Let us know in the comments.
