HBO has officially ordered a five-episode limited revival of Girls, with production set to begin in 2027. That’s ten years after the original six-season run wrapped. Lena Dunham, Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke, Zosia Mamet, and Andrew Rannells are all confirmed to return, which means Hannah, Marnie, Jessa, Shoshanna, and Elijah are back on our screens.
Dunham said the characters started speaking to her around her fortieth birthday, and that the team always agreed they’d only return if there was a specific story worth telling. She described the revival as a chance to revisit the show with hindsight, gratitude, and a whole new level of understanding.
One name is missing from the announcement: co-showrunner Jenni Konner. That detail carries extra weight after Dunham’s memoir Famesick described their working relationship as toxic. Dunham is also co-writing a Broadway musical adaptation of 10 Things I Hate About You, opening in 2027, so her year is already packed.
