Trump Says Kimberly Guilfoyle "Wasn't Family" After Her Resignation as Ambassador to Greece

Kimberly Guilfoyle is no longer the U.S. Ambassador to Greece. She resigned Tuesday, shortly after the White House called for her to step down, following a Wall Street Journal report that she asked Trump donor Eric Deters to pay off a $100,000 American Express bill before her July 2025 Senate confirmation hearing. Deters told NBC News he considered it a“quid pro quo”and said Guilfoyle offered access to“Trump world.”Guilfoyle denies the allegations and says she intends to“vigorously defend”her name, while her attorney says she was simply owed payment for speaking at patriotic events.

Then the President weighed in and made it personal. Asked about Guilfoyle on Tuesday, Trump told reporters,“No, she wasn’t a member of my family. She, I guess, dated my son a long time ago.”That’s a notable framing given she was engaged to Donald Trump Jr. from 2020 until their split at the end of 2025, spoke at MAGA rallies, and appeared on 2024 Decision Night coverage. She was confirmed to the Greece post in September 2025.

The timing matters too, with the midterm elections coming up on November 3. Money, access, and loyalty are already the dominant themes of this cycle, and a resignation tied to a six-figure credit card bill fits right into that conversation. So what do you think: is“wasn’t family”a fair statement of fact, or a very public way of cutting someone loose?
