A wreck near the Walmart Supercenter on North Sheridan last week ended with a Lawton man in jail on a $150,000 bond, according to Comanche County court records. Russell Antonio Perkins, 48, was charged Friday with felony counts including PCP possession with intent to distribute, cocaine trafficking, and firearm possession after a prior felony conviction. Misdemeanor charges include leaving the scene of an accident, obstructing police, and failure to maintain insurance.
Police responded around 9 p.m. on Oct. 11 after hearing tires squeal and an impact near the store at 1002 N. Sheridan, according to court records. Officers reported a foot chase and a struggle before a search recovered more than 30 grams of cocaine, 18 vials of golden liquid, a 9mm handgun, two cell phones, four liquor bottles, and $282 in small bills. Because of two prior felony convictions, the trafficking charge carries up to 40 years in prison.
Perkins remains held on $150,000 bond with a preliminary hearing scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Jan. 12, 2027. The case touches a spot plenty of Lawton families pass through every week, so we’ll keep tracking it as it moves through the courts.
