Texas Gas Prices Fall for Third Straight Week, but Diesel Still Stings at $5.79

Drivers crossing into Texas from Lawton are getting a little relief at the pump. The statewide average for regular gas dropped four cents this week to $3.83 a gallon, marking the third straight week of declines. It’s the kind of slow, steady slide that adds up over a month of commuting, even if it doesn’t feel like much on a single fill-up.

Not every Texas city is sharing in the good news. Midland saw prices jump 24 cents and Odessa climbed 18, while El Paso holds the top spot at $4.33 a gallon. McAllen, down in the Rio Grande Valley, is the cheapest in the state at $3.61. Diesel, meanwhile, is stuck at $5.79 statewide and $6.32 nationally, and that’s the number that quietly inflates the price of everything from groceries to hardware.

AAA Texas says crude oil hovering near $100 a barrel, hurricane threats to Gulf Coast refineries, and international tensions are all working against the deeper seasonal drops drivers usually see in October. Forecasters warn the next few weeks could bring more volatility. So what’s your strategy: fill up in Oklahoma or hunt for the cheapest station across the border? Let us know in the comments.
