Arizona Family Opens 30-Year-Old Can of Raw Bacon and It Smells Like Dog Food

An Arizona estate sale company found a sealed can of sliced raw bacon dated 1995 and did what any of us would do: they filmed themselves opening it. The Anderson Family posted the video, and it shows that vintage metal key peeling the tin back while someone off-camera announces the smell is straight dog food.

Here’s the wild part. The bacon came out red and surprisingly intact, wrapped in wax paper like it was fresh from the grocery store. That lasted about ten seconds. Once they tried to separate the slices, the meat turned white and waxy and crumbled apart. Commenters quickly pointed out that those key-style openings were discontinued in the’80s, so the can might actually be from 1985.

So is old canned meat ever safe? Technically, if the seal stays intact, canned meats can last for decades. The catch is that safe does not mean good. Flavor, texture, and smell all go long before the food becomes dangerous. This video is proof you can open the can, you just should not eat what is inside.

What’s the oldest thing hiding in the back of your pantry right now?
