There’s something quietly powerful about watching exes come together for the people they created. This past weekend, Tom Brady and Bridget Moynahan set aside their separate lives to celebrate their son John“Jack”Edward Thomas Moynahan’s high school graduation—and the internet got a rare, genuine glimpse of what modern co-parenting can look like.

On Sunday, June 14, Moynahan, 55, posted a series of graduation photos to Instagram, including one that stopped the scroll: the actress standing on one side of Jack, Brady on the other, both beaming. The caption was simple but loaded with warmth:“So proud of our boy Jack. We are all excited to see what you do next!”She tagged Brady and added the hashtags #wedidit and #proudparents—a subtle nod to the fact that despite their romantic history, they’ve built something functional and loving as parents.

Brady had already shared his own post the day before, on Saturday, June 13. But this wasn’t just a photo op. The former New England Patriots quarterback wrote a deeply personal reflection on who his son has become:“One of the proudest days of my life, watching Jack walk across the stage, and graduate into the next chapter of what’s already an impressive life. You are an amazing son, brother, grandson, nephew, and friend amongst many other things.”He continued with the kind of advice only a parent knows matters—”What makes me happiest is knowing who you are when no one is watching. The way you show up for your friends. The way you check on people having a hard day.”

What makes this story resonate isn’t the celebrity factor. It’s the reminder that Jack didn’t grow up with just one version of a blended family—he had two parents who chose to build something functional together, and later, partners who loved him as their own. Brady and Moynahan welcomed Jack in August 2007, a year after they ended their relationship. Brady later married supermodel Gisele Bündchen, with whom he shares two more children, Benjamin and Vivian. When the former couple divorced in October 2022 after 13 years of marriage, Bündchen reflected on the journey:“I’m so grateful for [Bridget]. I know this was hard, but I couldn’t imagine my life without [Jack]. I call him my bonus child.”

In a 2019 interview, Moynahan spoke candidly about the makeup of her family:“Tom and I made a decision to raise a child together and we both found partners that not only supported us in raising that child, but also loved our child as if he was their own. I don’t think you can ask for more than that.”It’s a philosophy that seems to have shaped Jack into exactly the kind of person both his parents are proud of—someone who shows up for others and knows he’s got a village behind him. That’s the real graduation story here.
