The Family Stone Cast Is Reuniting for a Sequel, and It's a Tribute to Diane Keaton

The Stone family is coming home for Christmas. Searchlight Pictures announced The Families Stone, a sequel to the 2005 holiday favorite, with the original cast returning. Sarah Jessica Parker, Rachel McAdams, Luke Wilson, and Craig T. Nelson are all back, and the story picks up roughly 20 years after the original. The family gathers for the holidays and discovers their father has invited a new love interest, which sounds a lot like the chaos that started it all.

Writer-director Thomas Bezucha is returning, and he’s calling the film a tribute to Diane Keaton, who played matriarch Sybil Stone and died in October 2025 at 79. Luke Wilson said he read the script and found it really funny and meaningful in the wake of her passing, noting how great she was to be around on the first film.
