A surveillance camera in the Aces and Eights Bar parking lot on Cache Road captured a mid-September attack that left a man with multiple skull fractures, missing teeth, and a jaw that had to be wired shut at OU Medical. According to a Lawton police detective’s testimony, Dartanion Shaw, 27, punched the victim without apparent provocation, knocked him unconscious, and kept punching and stomping his head. Steven Andrew Garcia, 38, of Altus, is accused of joining in on the unconscious man, hitting and stomping his head several more times.
Garcia appeared Wednesday in Comanche County District Court on a count of aggravated assault and battery. He’s being held on a $250,000 bond and faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted. His record includes five prior felony convictions, among them assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and rape by instrumentation. He’s scheduled back in court at 10 a.m. January 19, 2027, for a preliminary hearing.
The case raises real questions for anyone who spends time along the Cache Road bar corridor: how safe are those parking lots after dark, and how do repeat violent offenders move through the justice system? For now, one man is behind bars awaiting his next court date, and another is recovering from injuries that will take months to heal.
