Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center has been named a Project ECHO Superhub, making it one of only 41 such institutions worldwide. The designation allows TTUHSC to recruit, train, and support new hubs in the video-based telementoring network that connects rural health care providers with specialists. Three Superhubs now operate in Texas.
The center already runs ECHO programs focused on student mental health, maternal health, diabetes and obesity, dementia care, and substance use. The Superhub will be housed in TTUHSC’s Institute of Telehealth and Digital Innovation, with Dr. Ariel P. Santos leading the TexLa Telehealth Resource Center that supports the work.
For rural communities across West Texas and our neighbors here in southwest Oklahoma, the impact is straightforward. Local providers get specialist guidance without patients making long drives, and that can improve care closer to home. Have you used telehealth recently, and how did it go?
