Comanche County Commissioners Weigh HVAC Bids, Discuss Railroad Lawsuit Against County

Comanche County commissioners opened four bids Monday for a rooftop HVAC replacement at the County Health Department, and the numbers cover a wide range. Sellers Air Solutions came in at $13,500, while Kayser Mechanical Inc. submitted the highest proposal at $30,948. The three commissioners will review the bids before awarding the contract, so no decision yet on which unit gets the job.

The meeting also included 28 minutes in closed session with District Attorney Kyle Cabelka regarding a lawsuit from Stillwater Central Railroad. The railroad claims a sheriff’s deputy struck a crossing mast on Rogers Lane on March 7, causing $39,974 in damage. The county’s self-insured group, ACCCO, declined to pay the claim, and the railroad filed suit in Comanche County District Court on Oct. 19. The closed session was legal, since pending litigation is one of the few topics Oklahoma law allows behind closed doors, but the outcome could hit county coffers.

In other business, commissioners approved 14 paid holidays for county employees in 2027 and finalized next year’s meeting schedule. If you work for the county, that’s your calendar sorted. If you’re a taxpayer, it’s another reminder that the small agenda items and the big ones both come out of the same pocket. Which of these decisions matters most to you?
