Ryan Phillippe just gave us the ultimate throwback story. During an appearance on“Live with Kelly and Mark,”he opened up about the 2006 Oscars, a night when his then-wife Reese Witherspoon won Best Actress for“Walk the Line,”and his own film“Crash”took home Best Picture. He called it“a wild night altogether,”and the details back that up.

The moment that’s getting the most attention? While the“Crash”producers were delivering their Best Picture acceptance speech, Phillippe turned to presenter Morgan Freeman and introduced himself, saying,“I’ve always wanted to meet you, sir.”Witherspoon was backstage when his film won, so the two celebrated separately during the show before reuniting at an after-party that reportedly lasted until 5 or 6 in the morning.

The marriage ultimately ended, with the divorce finalized in 2008, but Phillippe and Witherspoon have since built a strong co-parenting relationship with their two kids, Ava and Deacon. They even reunited back in May for their son’s NYU graduation. Two decades, one chaotic Oscars night, and a Hollywood ending that actually worked out.

What’s your favorite celebrity throwback story from the 2000s? Sound off in the comments.
