Hulu has officially ordered Ryan Coogler’s reimagining of“The X-Files”to series. Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel will star as two FBI agents who get assigned to a long-shuttered division dedicated to unexplained cases. The two agents are highly decorated, wildly different, and end up bonding over the work nobody else wanted.

A few things worth knowing. These are original characters, not new versions of Dana Scully and Fox Mulder, so the show is building its own path inside the franchise. Coogler wrote, directed, and executive produced the pilot, Jennifer Yale is the showrunner, and original creator Chris Carter is still involved as an executive producer. Coogler said he has loved“The X-Files”for a long time and that writing and directing the pilot meant a great deal to him.

The original series ran eleven seasons and collected fifteen Emmys, so the nostalgia factor here is massive. Pair that with Coogler’s recent run, including“Sinners”and its sixteen Oscar nominations, and this becomes one of the most anticipated TV projects on the board. No premiere date has been announced yet. Which new agent are you more excited to meet, and what case do you want them to tackle first?
