One artist, one year, nine rewilding projects, and a whole lot of hope. Rebecca Howard’s new exhibition,‘A Year in the Wild’, documents the UK’s quiet nature comeback, from saltmarsh restoration in Lancashire to beavers returning to Devon and turtle dove conservation in Somerset. She travelled from Cornwall to Yorkshire, painting landscapes that show what happens when land is simply given the chance to recover.
The exhibition is on at Knepp in Sussex until Sunday 18 October. If that name sounds familiar, it’s because Knepp is one of the country’s most famous rewilding estates. Howard said she was“in awe”of the people restoring the land, and that seeing a place teeming with life is nothing short of beautiful. It’s a hopeful counterweight to the usual environmental headlines.
Even better: proceeds from card and print sales support Rewilding Britain. So you’re not just looking at pretty art, you’re helping fund the next comeback. So, what’s the wildest place you’ve ever visited in the UK, and would you make the trip to see this before Sunday?
