Olivia Rodrigo has a remix of“Expectations”on the way, and she’s bringing Chappell Roan with her. The announcement landed Tuesday, October 13, with both the remix and an accompanying visual set to arrive Thursday, October 15.
Rodrigo broke the news with an audio snippet of Roan saying,“Oh, Olivia does remixes now,”which is about as on-brand as a teaser gets. The remix cover art, shot by Phoenix Johnson, shows the pair in 1980s outfits posing on a retro convertible, leaning fully into that Cyndi Lauper aesthetic.
The collaboration makes a lot of sense given their history. Both artists have worked with producer Dan Nigro, Roan performed at Rodrigo’s Daisy Chain Fields festival, and they’ve appeared on each other’s tours. Rodrigo has said Roan gives her advice on taking care of herself in an overwhelming industry. The original“Expectations”debuted at No. 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 and appears on Rodrigo’s album“you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love,”which topped the Billboard 200.
Are you tuning in the second this remix drops Thursday, or waiting to see if it lives up to the hype?
