Miley Cyrus is having a big week in Los Angeles, and the headline isn’t about music. On October 10, she and her mother Tish were honored at the Downtown Women’s Center’s Every Woman Housed Gala, where the Miley Cyrus Foundation donated $1 million to help fund Rosa’s Place, a 97-apartment housing development in Skid Row. The gala raised $2.2 million for DWC’s HOME campaign, making it the organization’s most successful event in nearly 50 years.

The donation is the latest chapter in a commitment that stretches back to 2014, when Miley sent Jesse Helt, a young man who had experienced homelessness, to accept her MTV VMA onstage. Twelve years later, she’s also been named Honorary Chair of My Friend’s Place’s new campus for youth experiencing homelessness.“I have always thought of home as my safe place,”she said.“When I started my foundation 12 years ago, I was really moved by the fact that many people, especially people my age at the time, were going through life without either.”

This week, Miley plays two sold-out shows at the Hollywood Bowl, just miles from the Skid Row community her foundation is investing in. She’s called it a full-circle moment, and it’s easy to see why. Which celebrity cause do you actually keep up with? Tell us in the comments.
