Michael Strahan is officially a founding partner in Grand Slam of Flag, a new international women’s flag football tournament with a $500,000 prize pool, which organizers call the largest ever offered in the sport. The series was announced October 13 by Strahan’s SMAC Entertainment alongside Creative Artists Agency and EverWonder Studio.
The inaugural event is set for Los Angeles in February 2027, the week before the Super Bowl, with invitations out to six national teams: the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Great Britain, Spain and China. Former Canadian national team quarterback and longtime NFL executive Sam Rapoport will serve as commissioner, and the competition is being developed in consultation with the NFL and in association with the International Federation of American Football. One note: it’s a friendly invitational, so results won’t count toward international rankings.
The timing matters. Flag football makes its Olympic debut in 2028, and girls’flag football keeps gaining varsity status in more than 20 states. A big-money tournament with an NFL legend attached gives the sport a concrete next step toward LA. Which national team are you rooting for in 2027?
