Meet Millie, the two-year-old border collie–English shepherd mix who is more than just a pretty face—she’s a vocal superstar! Millie had her big debut serenading her new family with “All the Gold in California” right on her ride home from the shelter, leaving her new parents, Dallas and Jake Van Pelt, completely astonished. With her playful spirit and unique talent, this furry gem didn’t just find a home; she also landed a slot on the February/March 2026 cover of Reader’s Digest, showcasing the incredible joy that comes from pet adoption.

Having started out her life on a farm in Wisconsin, Millie was adopted immediately after arriving at the local shelter in September 2023. Originally named Bubbles as part of a Powerpuff Girls-themed litter, she was quickly renamed Millie after her family’s favorite sprint car driver took home the Million Dollar race that same year. It was a name that fit her exuberant personality perfectly, and she hasn’t slowed down since! Whether she’s juggling tennis balls, engaging in mischievous antics, or snuggling up for some affection, Millie’s infectious energy seems to turn even the simplest moments into heartwarming memories.

As a reminder of the love that adoption can bring, Millie represents warmth and connection that captivates everyone she meets. Her presence on the magazine cover isn’t just about her adorable face; it’s a symbol of hope, reflecting how one little dog can spread joy and transform lives—both hers and her family’s. Isn’t it fascinating how one singing pup can create ripples of love in our lives?
