Julia Stiles just gave every millennial the nostalgia hit of the year. On“Dancing with the Stars”Super Bowl Night, she and pro partner Ezra Sosa performed a hip-hop jazz routine to Jennifer Lopez’s“Jenny from the Block,”and the whole thing was a love letter to her 2001 film“Save the Last Dance.”
The twist? Her former co-star Sean Patrick Thomas was in the audience, and during her solo he stood up and held his jacket, a direct callback to his character Derek’s famous move in the movie. The judges gave Stiles and Sosa a 33 out of 40, with Bruno Tonioli declaring it their best dance yet. Stiles has said she stopped taking dance classes after the film and that the experience was“a bit of a disadvantage,”which makes this performance feel like a genuine return to joy.
Stiles told the cameras she’d been waiting 25 years to do that dance, and it showed.“DWTS”airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC and streams on Disney+. What’s your all-time favorite movie dance scene? Let us know in the comments.
