Shane Gillis used his SNL monologue this weekend to joke that women who wear short shorts to the gym dress like“whores.”Within hours, former SNL cast member Ego Nwodim had the perfect answer: a gym selfie captioned“Whore reporting for duty.”No rant, no notes app essay, just a photo and four words that completely flipped the joke back on him.

Nwodim, who spent six seasons on SNL from 2018 to 2025, followed it up with a post about“getting my 30 grams of protein in after heauxing.”Cecily Strong and Dan Levy also weighed in, with Levy calling the remark a sign of misogyny. It all made for a rough news cycle for Gillis, who was hired as an SNL cast member back in 2019 but was fired before his first episode over racist podcast clips. Saturday was his third time hosting.

The whole exchange says a lot about how casually women’s bodies and clothing still get debated on public stages, and about how quickly audiences now rally behind a sharp, funny comeback instead of a serious scolding. Nwodim didn’t ask for an apology. She just took the joke and made it hers.

Should SNL keep inviting Shane Gillis back, or has this bit run its course?
