Josh Brolin has played a lot of roles, but his first one might be the wildest: teenage punk drummer. The actor just revealed he’s working on a documentary about Cito Vice Squad, the band he started with his best friend Jason Sears after they fell hard for the Sex Pistols. Brolin calls it a“really bad garage version”of Rich Kids On LSD, and he’s talking to filmmaker Amy Berg about the whole LA punk scene that raised him.
And what a scene it was. Brolin says he used to climb out his window at night to catch Black Flag and Circle Jerks at Godzilla’s. Sears and bandmate Richard“Bomer”Manzullo went on to form Rich Kids On LSD, the hardcore skatepunk group behind“It’s A Beautiful Feeling”and“Still Laughing.”Both men died in 2005, two months apart, which makes this project far more than a nostalgia trip.
The timing lines up with Brolin’s new film“Whalefall,”which hits UK cinemas today. So you can catch him fighting for survival on the big screen, then wait for the doc that shows where it all started. What’s the most surprising secret talent you’ve ever found out about a celebrity?
