Jalen Brunson traded the court for a badge Thursday night, playing Detective Madison on“Law&Order: SVU.”His scene with Mariska Hargitay’s Captain Benson was brief but crucial, tied to a case involving a teen assaulted at a wedding. And hidden inside his dialogue was a very on-the-nose Knicks nod:“Thanks, Captain. I focused on my goals, did 110%. Things worked out.”

The family affair didn’t stop there. Brunson’s dad, Knicks assistant coach Rick Brunson, popped up in a three-second cameo that fans immediately clocked. Reaction was warm, if fair: one acting teacher called Brunson“decent”for a rookie with a slightly stiff delivery. Considering his only prior Hollywood credit was hosting“Saturday Night Live”on Sept. 26, the man is clearly having a year.

The episode aired Nov. 5 on NBC and is streaming now on Peacock. Knicks fans get a championship-tinged wink, TV viewers get a fun crossover, and Brunson gets to keep flexing on and off the court.
