A Spain-based company has chosen western Oklahoma for its first American manufacturing operation. Molins inaugurated its new plant in Elk City this week, a facility spanning about 32,300 square feet on nearly 6 acres. The plant will produce urban furniture under the company’s Escofet brand, starting with eight of its most in-demand products for customers across the U.S. and Canada.
The move is part of a bigger push into North America. Right now, that market accounts for only about 6% of the urban landscape solutions business, and Molins wants to grow that share to as much as 30%. Manufacturing closer to customers means shorter delivery times and better logistics. The plant’s workforce is expected to grow to as many as 50 employees as operations ramp up.
For southwest Oklahoma, this is the kind of news that matters. An international company investing in a rural community strengthens the local manufacturing base and creates opportunities for workers and suppliers across the region. Elk City Mayor Micah Kilhoffer called it a major international win for western Oklahoma, and it’s hard to argue with that.
