Georgina Cates, the actress who became a familiar face to a generation of British TV viewers as Jenny in 2point4 Children, has died at 51. She passed away on May 6 in Brighton, England, though her death only became public on October 17, when the sitcom’s creator Andrew Marshall shared the news on X and said he had just learned of it himself. A cause of death has not been revealed.

Born Clare Elaine Woodgate in Colchester, Essex, in 1975, Cates broke through as a teenager and went on to star in Mike Newell’s 1995 film An Awfully Big Adventure alongside Hugh Grant and Alan Rickman. Her later credits included Clay Pigeons, Frankie Starlight, Stiff Upper Lips and Everlasting. She was also married to actor Skeet Ulrich from 1997 to 2005, and their twins Naiia and Jakob were born in 2001.

Her daughter Naiia shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram in June, remembering her mom as“beautiful”and“free-spirited,”and writing that she“lived a hard life and still found ways to make herself and others laugh and smile.”The news is a quiet heartbreak for fans of 90s television and film. What’s your favorite memory of her work?
