Ariana Grande shared heartbreaking news with fans on Monday, Oct. 19: her dog Coco has died after more than 17 years by her side. The singer posted an Instagram tribute filled with photos and videos spanning Coco’s entire life, from puppy days to her 17th birthday celebration. In the caption, Grande thanked Coco for“blessing this planet”for over seventeen years, calling her the sweetest, most amazing and most beautiful dog.

The final slide of the post is the one everyone’s talking about: a black-and-white image of Coco’s paws resting beside a single white rose. Friends and collaborators including Ross Mathews, Leon Thomas and producer Ilya Salmanzadeh flooded the comments with condolences, and fans quickly did the same.

The tribute arrives during a quieter chapter for Grande, who is on a break after wrapping her Eternal Sunshine Tour in early September. She’ll return to the spotlight Nov. 25, starring alongside Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro in Focker-in-Law. For now, though, she’s simply honoring the companion who was there through it all.
