World War II history is parked about an hour north of Lawton, and on Saturday, Oct. 17, the doors swing open for everyone. The WWII Airborne Demonstration Team hosts its Open Hangar Day from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Frederick Regional Airport, 3200 Paul Tibbets Road. Admission is free, no registration is required, and the whole event is the team’s way of thanking a community that has supported them for years.
Weather permitting, visitors can watch the team’s trained parachutists make WWII-style jumps. On the ground, you’ll find the restored C-47A“Boogie Baby”and the C-49B“Wild Kat,”plus vintage military vehicles, weapons, and equipment displays. Guests can also tour the 84-year-old hangar at the historic Frederick Army Air Field, a base that trained navigators during the war. Team marketing director Gary Daniels says the goal is an unforgettable and informative experience for everyone who attends.
