Women’s Protective Services of Lubbock has named Jimmy Burns as its permanent executive director, effective October 15th, 2026, after he served seven months in the interim role. The WPS Board of Directors made the announcement this week, with board president Shandi Martin praising Burns for his support of staff, his experience managing complex operations and his dedication to the families the organization serves.
Burns brings 32 years of public education experience to the role, including 11 years as a superintendent, and holds a master’s degree in educational leadership from Lamar University. His background in managing budgets, employees and facilities lines up with the demands of leading an organization that provides emergency shelter, crisis intervention, counseling, legal advocacy and programs for parents and children across Lubbock County and 11 surrounding South Plains counties.
For rural survivors, that 12-county footprint makes WPS a critical resource, often the closest option in a crisis. Burns said he is honored to continue serving WPS and to support the people who make the work possible. If you or someone you know needs help, reaching out to WPS directly connects you to shelter and advocacy services in the South Plains.
