Eric Dane’s posthumous memoir,“My Book of Days: A Memoir in Moments,”arrives November 3rd, and People just obtained an excerpt that has everyone talking. In it, the actor describes his 20s as a“dark period,”writing that he auditioned for roles and got cast in some, but“mainly I did drugs.”He lists alcohol and marijuana alongside heroin, cocaine, meth, crack, painkillers, benzodiazepines and stimulants, and adds the line that sums it up:“I don’t think there’s a drug I didn’t try.”

The excerpt also shares a moment that will hit you hard. After his 2025 ALS diagnosis, Dane was on a family trip to Antigua when he nearly drowned, and his youngest daughter, Georgia, then 14, pulled him from the water. He died on February 19th at 53, less than a year after announcing his diagnosis, with respiratory failure caused by ALS listed on his death certificate. His older daughter Billie and wife Rebecca Gayheart survive him.

Books like this one do something ordinary tributes can’t. They let a public figure tell his own story, addiction, illness, fatherhood and all, in his own words. Will you be reading Eric Dane’s memoir when it comes out on November 3rd?
