The Snoop Dogg biopic has its Afeni Shakur. Cynthia Erivo is joining the cast of“Snoop,”taking on the role of the Black Panther Party activist and mother of Tupac Shakur. Camron Jones will play Tupac, and the pairing instantly makes the Shakur family story a major thread in the film.

The rest of the ensemble is just as stacked. Jonathan Daviss stars as Snoop, Tre Hale plays Suge Knight, Myles Bullock is Dr. Dre, Lauren London is Beverly Tate, Algee Smith is Warren G, and Laya DeLeon Hayes plays Shante Broadus. Craig Brewer directs the project, which is set to arrive in theaters in August 2027.

For Erivo, this adds another major role to a busy slate that also includes the“Children of Blood and Bone”adaptation. But the bigger takeaway is Afeni’s legacy getting a real spotlight: activist, mother, and a woman whose influence shaped one of music’s most important voices. So, which part of this cast are you most excited to see on screen?
