A TikTok creator named Kierra King says a visit to Perlman Clinic in San Diego ended with a sample bottle labeled“King Kong”instead of“Kierra King.”In her now-viral video, King says she confronted the nurses, who apologized and claimed it was an error from typing too fast. King pushed back, saying the label was never reviewed with her, which undercuts the accidental-typo explanation. Her video has since racked up more than 1 million likes and 141,000 shares.
The story is touching a nerve for a reason. Medical labels aren’t decorative; they’re how samples are tracked and how patients are identified, so a wrong name raises genuine safety questions. And for many viewers, the moment also looks like something bigger: a familiar kind of microaggression that Black patients say they experience in health care settings. King herself framed it simply, saying as a Black woman, you understand why she’d have a problem with this.
King says she has reported the incident to multiple agencies and is using her platform to advocate for Black women. The clinic has not offered any further public comment beyond the initial apology.
