Anna Faris Responds to Chuck Lorre's "Mom" Memoir Diss: "Of Course It Hurts"

Chuck Lorre’s new memoir“Sitcom”has plenty of behind-the-scenes stories, but one passage is getting all the attention. Lorre writes that he had doubts about casting Anna Faris as the lead of“Mom,”and then claims those doubts were“correct”because she left the show after seven seasons for what he calls“mysterious reasons.”Faris, who starred on the CBS sitcom from its 2013 debut through season seven, didn’t stay quiet about it.

In an Instagram response, Faris said,“Yikes. Yes, I read a few things. I really didn’t see that coming.”She admitted the dig stung, but said she remains proud of and grateful for her seven seasons on the series. She also shared something far more personal: she has been sober for a year and a half. Faris called it ironic that she spent years on a show centered on addiction and recovery, and then ended up living that journey herself. She says she’s now healthy, working, and“happier than I’ve been in a long time.”

Lorre’s memoir also touches on his past working relationship with Charlie Sheen, so Faris isn’t the only former collaborator mentioned. Still, her response has become the story, partly because of how measured it was and partly because of the vulnerability she chose to share.“Mom”ran for eight seasons and was widely praised for its honest portrayal of sobriety and relapse, which makes this whole exchange land a little differently for fans of the show.

Do you think former bosses should be able to write about employees in memoirs, or should some things stay private? Sound off in the comments.
