When a castmate offers to carry your child, there’s a graceful way to decline. Zack Wickham’s way? Lightning fast and pretty hilarious.

During an exclusive chat with Us Weekly on Thursday, May 7, The Valley star reacted to costar Janet Caperna’s generous—if joking—offer to serve as his surrogate. The moment happened during season 3, episode 6 of Bravo’s hit series, when Janet asked if Zack and his boyfriend Benji wanted kids during a San Diego group trip. When Benji expressed that fatherhood was non-negotiable, Janet quipped,“Just let me know when you need a uterus.”Her husband Jason’s immediate response—”Stop offering your uterus out”—set the comedic tone. But Zack’s actual reaction to the offer? Pure deflection gold.

“I’ve never wanted to, like, say,‘No, thank you,’faster,”he told the outlet.“Oh my god, could you imagine?”He continued with the kind of self-aware humor that reality TV gold is made of, noting that Janet was clearly joking around and that if he’d actually taken her up on it, she’d probably have second thoughts.“I just don’t even know what that would entail,”he added, before acknowledging that such a wild offer would likely disappear the moment it was taken seriously.

But here’s where things get real. Despite the warmth of that moment—which Janet herself described as“heartwarming”on camera—Zack and Janet’s friendship took some notable turns throughout season 3. The two had what he calls“back and forth”moments, particularly during a pool-side conversation that, he says, felt dismissive of his feelings. Zack felt Janet was trying to joke her way past conflict rather than genuinely apologize or move forward. It’s a familiar pattern in reality TV friendships: humor as a shield rather than a bridge. He struggled with that dynamic all season long, while Janet seemingly couldn’t understand why he wasn’t willing to let the jokes smooth things over. Sometimes laughter and apologies aren’t the same thing—even when they come from the same person trying their best.

The Valley airs on Bravo and features Zack alongside Janet, Brittany Cartwright, Jesse Lally, Daniel Booko, Kristen Doute, Lala Kent, Nia Sanchez, Jasmine Goode, Jason Caperna, and Tom Schwartz. Janet welcomed her own son Cameron with husband Jason after season 1 filming wrapped in December 2023, so her surrogacy joke came with at least a little lived experience.
