Will Reeve, the 34-year-old Good Morning America correspondent and son of Christopher and Dana Reeve, revealed this week that he was diagnosed with testicular cancer this spring. He noticed a lump in April and acted on it quickly, having surgery to remove the testicle, then a six-hour surgery to remove abdominal lymph nodes after the cancer spread. He also completed two rounds of chemotherapy, finishing on July 31. As of a September 8 checkup, he is cancer-free.
What stands out is how he handled it. Reeve kept working at GMA throughout treatment, using cold-capping to prevent hair loss, and chose to share his story rather than keep it quiet.“I was raised to share one’s struggles if, in doing so, that might help others,”he said. He also opened up about feeling closer to his late parents, Christopher and Dana Reeve, during the experience.
His story is a reminder about early detection. Testicular cancer is highly treatable when caught early, and Reeve’s discovery started with something simple: he noticed a change and got it checked. He’ll continue scans and bloodwork three to four times a year going forward.
