Travis Scott’s career just took a major turn. The Houston rapper has officially made his feature film debut in Christopher Nolan’s‘The Odyssey,’playing a bard in the director’s ambitious adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek epic. What makes this casting choice especially interesting is that Scott delivers the first character’s voice audiences hear in the entire film. Nolan explained his decision to Time magazine, revealing that he wanted to explore the connection between oral poetry traditions and rap music, seeing them as fundamentally similar ways of passing down stories across generations. It’s a perspective that makes total sense when you really think about it.

Beyond his acting role, Scott also contributed to the film’s music. He collaborated with frequent partner James Blake and composer Ludwig Göransson on‘When I’m Home,’a haunting track that closes the soundtrack and plays over the movie’s ending credits. The production is intoxicating and atmospheric, weaving in mythological references like sirens and the Battle of Troy that mirror Odysseus’turbulent journey home to Ithaca. Scott told Deadline that Nolan simply called him with the idea, and he was immediately ready to participate in the project. This is actually Scott’s second collaboration with the legendary director, following his work on the‘Tenet’soundtrack in 2020.

The‘Odyssey’soundtrack arrived today alongside the film itself, which features an absolutely stacked ensemble cast including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, and more. For hip-hop fans, this moment represents something bigger than just one artist’s career expansion, it signals that prestige filmmakers are increasingly recognizing rap artists as serious contributors to major studio productions. Have you had a chance to listen to‘When I’m Home’yet, or are you planning to check out the full film and soundtrack?
