When you’re locked up, the people who hold the keys are supposed to keep you safe. That’s not the case for Tory Lanez right now.

The rapper, currently housed at the California Men’s Colony in San Luis Obispo, has filed for a federal restraining order against a prison guard he claims is threatening to move him to a more dangerous housing unit. According to court documents obtained by TMZ, the corrections officer has made veiled threats referencing Tory’s near-fatal attack last year—a chilling reminder of just how vulnerable he is behind bars.

This whole situation stems from a brutal stabbing that left Tory with 14 stab wounds and two collapsed lungs. That attack happened in May 2025, and it nearly cost him his life. The physical injuries were devastating, but the psychological toll runs deeper. Now Tory’s terrified that his $100 million lawsuit against the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation—which he filed in April—is painting a target on his back. He believes retaliation from corrections staff is imminent, and frankly, his fears aren’t unfounded. Prison dynamics are complicated, and guards wield serious power over inmates’daily lives.

Tory’s asking the court to prevent this particular officer from having direct contact with him except for necessary prison functions. It’s a straightforward request: protect me from someone in a position to hurt me. The restraining order would also prohibit the prison from retaliating against him for filing his lawsuit—a legal safeguard that shouldn’t have to exist in a system designed to house people safely.

The bigger picture here is troubling. An inmate successfully attacks another inmate, nearly kills him, and now the victim has to fight for protection from the very people running the place. The original lawsuit alleged that Tory’s attacker had a violent history and should never have been housed with him in the first place. Add a guard making threatening comments into the mix, and you’ve got a recipe for disaster.

Whether the judge grants the restraining order remains to be seen, but one thing’s clear: Tory Lanez is fighting for his life on multiple fronts, and the system that’s supposed to keep people secure is making him feel anything but.
