Tokischa is already one of Latin music’s biggest names, and now she’s making moves in Hollywood. The Dominican dembow artist made her acting debut in“House of Guerrero,”playing Xochitl Romero in Gina Rodriguez’s feature directorial debut. The film also stars Becky G and Carlos Sanson Jr., and while there’s no official release date yet, the project is already generating serious conversation.

At Billboard Latin Music Week’s“Film and Music”panel in Miami Beach on Oct. 20, Tokischa opened up about what the experience unlocked in her. She told the panel she thinks she’s“a good crier”and would love to take on a very dramatic character, like a drug addict or someone who lost a loved one.“I’m a Pisces,”she explained, and honestly, that explains a lot. She also addressed playing a Mexican character as a Dominican, sharing that she couldn’t fake a Mexican accent, so she built the role from her own identity as a Latina instead.

Producer Scott Budnick used the panel to make a bold prediction: Latin cinema is on track to match Latin music’s worldwide reach. With stars like Tokischa and Becky G crossing over, and directors like Gina Rodriguez stepping behind the camera, that future looks closer than ever. Which artist would you love to see make their movie debut next?
