Put the fan edits away, because Tim McGraw has officially debunked the rumor that he performed at Taylor Swift’s wedding. On Esquire’s“What I’ve Learned”podcast, McGraw confirmed he and Faith Hill attended the July 3 wedding at Madison Square Garden but never took the stage.“I didn’t perform at her wedding. That was a rumor,”he said, adding with a laugh,“Surprise! The internet is not always correct.”Swift married Travis Kelce in front of about 1,000 guests at the enchanted garden-themed celebration.

The real story goes back nearly two decades. Swift named her 2006 debut single“Tim McGraw”in his honor and opened for McGraw and Hill’s Soul2Soul II Tour in 2007, spending time with the couple discussing her ambitions. McGraw still speaks glowingly of her, calling her a“special person”and a“genius songwriter”who connects with fans across generations, and he had warm words for Kelce too, calling him“a cool guy as well.”

So the wedding performance theory is done, but the legendary friendship behind it is very much alive. Kelce himself has called the night“the best night of my life,”and honestly, same energy. Were you convinced Tim was getting on that stage, or did you see through the rumor all along?
