The Town of Sterling is mourning one of its own this week. Corporal Kelton Bryan Reese, 37, died Sunday from injuries he suffered in a single-vehicle crash Thursday evening on SH-65, roughly two miles south of Sterling. Reese was on duty when the crash was reported at 5:44 p.m. First responders found his vehicle torn in half and Reese trapped inside with chest injuries and a broken leg. Kirk’s Ambulance Service transported him to Lawton Memorial Hospital, and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol’s Traffic Homicide Unit was summoned to investigate.
In a statement signed by Mayor Dale Winkler, Police Chief Rickey Snider, Fire Chief Chris Holden and the Sterling Board of Trustees, the town expressed deep sorrow and remembered Reese as an officer, a colleague, and a member of our Sterling family. They also asked residents to respect the family’s privacy during this time.
For those who want to help, the town has established a GoFundMe for the Reese family and a donation jar at Sterling City Hall. Funeral arrangements were unknown as of Monday afternoon, and we will share those details once they are announced. How would you like to see the Lawton and Sterling communities support the Reese family this week?
