Sofia Franklyn is reopening one of podcasting’s most famous friendship breakups in her new memoir, Daddy Issues. According to Franklyn, she discovered during negotiations with Barstool over the Call Her Daddy IP that cohost Alex Cooper was earning more than her. Franklyn says their own lawyer, Bruce, revealed the gap after the pair had been told they had the same agreement. She writes that she had a panic attack and called Cooper’s high school friend Muji, who allegedly said he knew about the pay difference all along.

Cooper has addressed the money before, publicly stating that both hosts earned $75,000, $85,000 and $100,000 over their three-year Barstool deal, with an additional raise for her production responsibilities. Since the split, Cooper signed a $125 million deal with SiriusXM, while Franklyn launched her own show, Sofia With an F, in 2020.

The story is less about the numbers and more about trust between friends who become business partners. It also raises a question a lot of people face at work: should coworkers and cofounders always know what everyone is making? What would you do if you found out a friend made more than you for the same job? Sound off in the comments.
