RJ Mitte, the actor who played Walter White Jr. on“Breaking Bad,”has died by suicide at 34, his rep confirmed. Born with cerebral palsy, Mitte made history by playing a character with the same condition, and he didn’t stop there. He became a passionate advocate, serving as president of The Mitte Foundation, a Texas nonprofit supporting people with disabilities, and working with United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s. In one of his final interviews, on the Oct. 3“Brownsville in Motion”podcast, Mitte reflected on his health and his hopes for the future.“I would hope to stay true to what I believe and to what I want to achieve,”he said. He also opened up about chronic hip pain and the discipline he needed to manage it. But he refused to let it define him negatively. He wanted to stay true to his mission. Bryan Cranston, his on-screen father, posted an emotional tribute on Instagram:“I’m in deep despair as I write this tonight. RJ Mitte, my sweet son on Breaking Bad has died.”Mitte’s death is a significant loss for the disability community, for“Breaking Bad”fans, and for anyone who believes in representation. His foundation will continue his work, and his legacy will live on. If you or someone you know is struggling, please reach out to the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. What’s your favorite RJ Mitte moment?
