Reading&Leeds Festival just announced a major shake-up that’s got music fans talking. The iconic BBC Introducing Stage, which has been a launching pad for emerging UK artists since 2008, is being discontinued. This is the stage where Ed Sheeran, The 1975, Florence + The Machine, Charli XCX, Dave, and Raye all got early career boosts. With roughly 70% of this year’s lineup having performed there early on, the stage’s legacy is absolutely massive. But the festival isn’t abandoning support for new artists, they’re restructuring it.
Festival Republic, the team behind Reading&Leeds, is calling their response“the biggest staging overhaul in the festival’s history.”Instead of one dedicated BBC Introducing Stage, they’re launching a new Canopy stage that’ll serve as home base for emerging and breaking acts. Along with that, the 2026 festival is getting up to six total new stages at both the Reading and Leeds locations, including The Gallery and The Warehouse. The Main Stage is being rebranded as The Grid. Festival boss Melvin Benn says he’s more excited about Reading&Leeds right now than he’s been since the late’90s, which is pretty telling about where they’re headed.
