Police Confirm Meghan Markle Letter Exists — But the Timeline Doesn't Match Her Story

Scotland Yard confirmed Saturday that a letter accusing Thomas Markle Sr. of child sexual abuse was received in January 2019 and forwarded to Prince Harry and Meghan’s office. The confirmation complicates Meghan’s Friday statement that she learned of the allegations from a letter in 2018. Her spokesperson said she was recalling events from more than seven years ago without a diary record, making a few months’discrepancy understandable.

Two details are drawing the most attention. First, the allegations were reportedly never shared with other law enforcement agencies, and police are now reviewing how the matter was handled, possibly including a referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct. Second, the family feud has escalated: Thomas Sr. vehemently denies the claims, calling them“sick lies,”while Thomas Markle Jr. says he found abuse material among their father’s belongings and Samantha Markle accuses Thomas Jr. of setting their dad up for money.

The allegations themselves remain unsubstantiated, and Meghan says she was assured the matter was being investigated and that her estrangement protects her children. With a police review underway and a family at war in the press, this story isn’t cooling down anytime soon. What do you think the police review should focus on first?
