Oklahoma AG Warns Kratom Isn't Automatically Safe After Two Ole Miss Student Deaths

Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond is urging residents to think twice about kratom after packaged kratom was recovered at the scenes of two separate student deaths at the University of Mississippi. The students were identified as 18-year-old Aidan Hamilton and 20-year-old Robert Strang, found dead at separate locations in Oxford, Mississippi. Toxicology results are still pending, and authorities have not confirmed kratom caused either death or ruled out foul play.

Kratom is widely available in Oklahoma stores, gas stations, and smoke shops, often marketed as a natural supplement for pain or energy. Drummond’s warning is simple: don’t assume a product is safe just because it’s sold over the counter.“Know what you are putting in your body,”he said, noting that store shelves are not a safety guarantee.
