When a parent’s worst decisions become public record, the fallout doesn’t stop in the courtroom. For Million Tyler, watching his father Mystikal accept a 20-year prison sentence for rape has fractured a relationship that may never fully repair.

According to Mystikal’s attorney Roy Maughan, the rapper has already reached out to his son in an attempt to patch things up. But Million isn’t ready. Not yet. The young man attended court hearings where the victim shared her story of the assault that occurred in Mystikal’s Louisiana home in 2022—an experience Maughan describes as difficult for him to endure. It’s one thing to know your parent made a terrible choice. It’s another to sit in a room and hear the details firsthand.

What makes this situation particularly complex is the contradiction baked into Mystikal’s case. The rapper pleaded guilty, accepting responsibility in legal terms. His attorney explains this was a strategic move—a“best interest plea”designed to minimize exposure given Mystikal’s prior convictions, including a 2003 sexual battery charge. Going to trial would have risked a life sentence. Yet despite taking the guilty plea, Mystikal maintains the relationship was consensual. You can’t simultaneously accept guilt and claim innocence. Million clearly recognizes this tension, and it’s eating at him.

Maughan tells us Mystikal loves his son and wants to make amends, not just with Million but with others affected by his actions, including his accuser. The attorney frames the rapper’s acceptance of his sentence as a form of“giving people peace.”But peace isn’t something you hand over like a pardon. It’s earned through genuine accountability and real change—work that happens slowly, if it happens at all, behind prison walls.

With over 17 years ahead of him, there’s time for Million to come around. There’s also time for him not to. The harder question is whether Mystikal’s desire to repair the relationship is rooted in genuine remorse or the desire to ease his own conscience while serving time. From where Million sits, those distinctions matter immensely.
