Nicolas Cage's Unreleased Movie Stolen From Netflix HQ: Here's What We Know

An unreleased Nicolas Cage thriller just became the center of one of Hollywood’s most chaotic security breaches.“Fortitude,”a WWII film starring Cage, was stolen from Netflix’s Hollywood offices in June. Hard drives containing the digital cinema package were taken right from office desks, and the producer is now suing the streaming giant for failing to protect the master copy.

The lawsuit from producer Simon Afram claims the film was hand-delivered unencrypted, which is honestly shocking for a project of this scale. Netflix, however, is pushing back hard. The company says Afram’s legal team demanded $165 million and calls it extortion. Afram has since added a defamation claim against Netflix over their public statement. To make matters worse, Netflix reportedly hasn’t called the FBI, which has filmmakers across the industry questioning whether any project is truly safe.

The big fear here is piracy. If“Fortitude”leaks online, the film’s value could tank before anyone even gets a chance to see it in theaters. It’s a nightmare scenario for any creator.
