Miley Cyrus took the Hollywood Bowl stage Friday night and opened her heart about the loss of her godmother, Dolly Parton. Parton died in August at 80 after a battle with cancer, and Miley used her show to honor the woman she calls family, telling the crowd,“Me and Dolly, we are eternal. Nothing in this life could ever tear us apart.”She added that she feels Parton“more now than ever.”
The tribute included a stirring performance of Parton’s 1973 hit“Jolene,”with an image of the country legend appearing onstage behind her. Miley also shared a memory from the one time she watched Dolly perform live from the audience, only for Dolly to open her set with the“Hannah Montana”theme song and announce her goddaughter’s presence to the whole crowd.
The night drew plenty of famous faces, including Selena Gomez and Christina Aguilera, and it turned into one of the most heartfelt shows of the year. For anyone who grew up watching the Cyrus-Parton bond, from“Hannah Montana”to their duets, this one hit home.
