Michael Douglas Shares Rare Update on Jack Nicholson: "He's Well" but Done With Acting

Jack Nicholson fans finally got a real update on the three-time Oscar winner this week, courtesy of his longtime friend Michael Douglas. While promoting his memoir“One Helluva Ride”in Swansea, Wales, Douglas was asked about Nicholson and kept it honest: the 89-year-old is well, he’s not working anymore, and he’s largely disappeared from public life. Douglas added that Jack is up by his house, walking around in his slippers, and that he deserves it.

Nicholson hasn’t appeared in a film since 2010’s“How Do You Know,”and he never actually announced a retirement. He just quietly stepped away. Douglas has a unique connection to him: he produced 1975’s“One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,”which won Nicholson an Oscar, though the two never acted together on screen. Occasional sightings keep fans hopeful, including a photo his daughter Lorraine shared with Joni Mitchell earlier this year and his appearance at the“SNL”50th anniversary special in 2025.

So the legend is fine, just retired in the most low-key way imaginable. If you had to pick the all-time greatest Jack Nicholson performance, what’s your answer? Let us know in the comments.
