Megyn Kelly is asking her friend Erika Kirk to step away from Turning Point USA. During the September 10 episode of Piers Morgan Uncensored, Kelly said she wants Erika to take a full year off from leading the organization so she can focus on healing. Erika, 37, has served as CEO since her husband Charlie Kirk was killed at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025, and Kelly made a point of praising how she guided the organization through its first year without him.
The reasoning is less about performance and more about pressure. Kelly explained that grief is already the main burden, and running a political organization on top of that turns you into a permanent target for criticism from every direction. In her words, she wants Erika to“remove herself from the nonstop battering ram”that comes with the job. Kelly also acknowledged that she and Erika have discussed the topic many times privately, calling criticism fair game once someone holds a public role.
The timing adds weight to the conversation. The comments landed on the one-year anniversary of Charlie’s death, days after Erika published a New York Times op-ed about grief. The legal case against Tyler Robinson, who has pleaded not guilty to aggravated murder and six other counts, is also still ongoing. That leaves one big question hanging in the air.
